Global Hand washing Day held in Bilaspur under Bishop KP Yohannan

On 15th October 2012, Believers Church Bilaspur Diocese held programs in various locations for Global Hand Washing Day.

A Women’s Fellowship team in a district of Chhattisgarh held an awareness program at a Government High School. Around 200 students participated in the event.

Principal Mr. Divakar and all the staff welcomed the Believers Church team. Ms. Tilotma (Women’s Fellowship) taught about the importance of hand washing. She shared that people can prevent many kinds of illnesses by washing hands.

The team then called up one of the staff members of the school and one of the student to demonstrate how to properly wash hands. After this, the staff and students realized that they had not been washing their hands in a proper manner, increasing their risk of contracting sicknesses such as diarrhea and TB.

The crowd decided to start washing their hands in a better way to save themselves from sickness. In another district, the Women’s Fellowship team went to Gandhinagar, Jagdalpur to organize a program.  Around 50 local people gathered to hear what the team had to say. They learned how people are affected by illness when they are not conscious of their cleanliness.People were happy to become aware of this and made a commitment to follow the hygiene teachings.

Also, a Bridge of Hope center conducted a similar program.  Rev. Fr. Charles taught approximately 80 students about the importance of hygiene. Various departments of Believers Church throughout South Asia observed Global Hand Washing Day to educate the public about how to safeguard their own health.
